MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Thank you for considering or becoming a member of Sally’s Friends – a Support Network for Sally’s House. This is a wonderful organization of women with a purpose, serving women with a need.
Sally’s House is a home where pregnant women and mothers, with a substance abuse problem can live while they redirect their lives, while keeping their children with them during the process. Sally’s House opened in 1993 and over the years has been home to more than 900 women and children. Sixty- four drug free babies have been born, and the 65th baby will be born in September 2009. This saves taxpayers $250,000 that would have been spent in the baby’s first week of life. But more importantly, it saves lives!
The women of Sally’s House have not only achieved sobriety and stability, but many have gone on to learn job skills, earn scholarships, and get educations. Three former residents now work at Harris, the largest corporate employers in Brevard County, and another is currently working on her master’s degree.
Abuse, neglect, abandonment has been the life experience for many of the residents of Sally’s House. And for the most part, Sally’s House is the first time they have been given the love, support, and direction needed to succeed and rise above their circumstance, and take their children with them.
There is no better cause than service, no better deed than compassion.. So, thank you for joining us in our effort to provide moral, physical, and financial support, as well as raise awareness for some of the most vulnerable in our community. The effort is rewarding, and we hope fun, as we develop friendships and enjoy events with the other women who have joined Sally’s Friends.
Sincerely,
Dana McArthur Sally’s Friends Guild President |
